Ben and Kim Go To China.

January 29, 2006 - From January 19th through the 29th, Ben and Kim took a vacation to China. The trip started and ended with 12 hour plane rides from Chicago to Beijing and back - yippee - We love coach class!!

We toured a lot of famous (and some not-so-famous) places while we were there. We went to the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Hu Tong (old city), and more. We even saw Chairmen Mao IN THE FLESH!! But no pictures were allowed.

We took a little side trip to Harbin. This is a city of 9 million way up north where 9 people would be crazy to live not to mention 9 million! Lets just say it was slightly cold - as evidenced by the pictures with just our eyes showing. But Harbin is famous for its Snow and Ice Sculpture Festival which is way cool. There are just massive castles and building made of ice that are lighted, I would recommend it, even if you don't have antifreeze in your veins.

While we were there, the Chinese celebrated New Year's Eve. For some hard to fathom reason, the Chinese celebrated New Year on Jan 29 this year, which is the Year Of The Dog, if you wanted to know. Anyways, they shot off on immense quantity of fireworks, as in non-stop for 5 hours.

Of course we ate a lot of Chinese food, no dog though, so don't ask. And it looks like we didn't get the bird flu, so it turned out to be a great trip.

Pictures, of course, can be found here.
